BACKGROUND
In the year of 1906 John D. Spreckels a wealthy businessman announces the
construction of The San Diego & Arizona Railroad SD&A, to connect this two
cities it was necessary to use Mexican soil.
In the year of 1909 Mexican government orders SD&A to form the Tijuana &
Tecate Co. which construct and hold a 99 year lease on the 44 mile Mexican
rail segment.
The construction of the railroad was difficult due to financial, technical
and political problems on both countries. Also the route goes through
mountains and canyons on both sides San Diego and Baja California.

On July 29th, 1910 (a 100 year ago) the
first passenger train arrives to Tijuana from San Diego at Tia Juana Hot
Springs. By the end of the same year the construction of the bridges and
tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 were completed.
From 1911 to 1913 the construction of the railroad in Tijuana stopped due to
Mexican Revolution.
On September 1914, the passenger service to Tecate was inaugurated.
On November 15th, 1919 at east of tunnel No.
8 the construction of SD&A is completed.
On July 1st 1970 SD&AE (before SD&A) sells
the Tijuana& Tecate Co., to the Mexican Government and the trackage was
assigned to the Sonora-Baja California section.
On
1986 an agreement between San Diego & Imperial Valley SDIV, and The Mexican
Government was celebrated to operate the Short Line.
On April 2000, the federal Government assigned the Short Line Tijuana &
Tecate to the Government of Baja California.
On September 1st 2000 The Administradora de
la Vía Corta Tijuana-Tecate (ADMICARGA) a State Government Agency was
created to administrate the railroad.
On 2001 ADMICARGA hired Carrizo Gorge Railway Inc. CZRy.
